The device is where the work gets done. So, having the right technology for your employees is an essential piece of the productivity puzzle.

A great end-user computing strategy should aim to provide employees with devices that support both productivity and satisfaction, providing a streamlined experience. In a recent Microsoft Work Trend Report with frontline workers, tech ranked high as one of the factors that helps reduce work-related stress, with many respondents valuing technology tools over mental health support and wellness benefits. If you want a productive, satisfied workforce, you need to get your technology provisioning right.

Provisioning equipment for end-user computing involves two essential strategies: inclusive and role-based provisioning.

Inclusive Provisioning

Is where every employee has the same model of device, so aesthetically they all look the same. This means devices can be swapped in and out easily, and you have synergy across the team as devices are not being allocated to employees based on the importance of their roles.

Role-Based Provisioning

Tailors equipment to an employee's specific job. For example, a designer might receive a high-performance workstation, while an on-the-road salesperson might get a lightweight laptop that requires less power performance.

The benefits of proper equipment provisioning are immense.

  1. It enhances productivity. When employees have the right tools, they work more efficiently, leading to improved output.
  2. It extends the longevity of devices. The right device for the job experiences less wear and tear, saving on replacement costs.
  3. It can foster a better tech sentiment among employees. When they have the tools they need, they're happier, more engaged, and more likely to stay with your company.
  4. It supports your ESG goals. Ensuring devices are fit for purpose and last means you're not replacing devices unnecessarily, getting more devices in use for longer.

When you're developing your EUC Strategy, it's important you analyse your provisioning, as inclusive and role-based provisioning isn't just about giving employees the right technology, it's about empowering them to excel, improving device longevity, and creating a positive tech culture in your business.
